Novorossyisk Icebreaker Escorts Its First Vessel to Franz Josef Land Archipelago

Novorossyisk icebreaker being under the operational control of Murmansk Branch successfully reached Alexandra Land of the Franz Josef Land Archipelago on February 05.

Icebreaker sail to the land's shore which at the same time provided icebreaker support for Klavdia Elanskaya passenger vessel took four days.

In accordance with sailing direction the passenger ship transported and safely put more than 200 passengers ashore. More than 160 tons of cargo that were successfully unloaded to the fast ice with the help of the hoisting crane with the capacity of 26 tons located on the board were simultaneously delivered to the destination on the icebreaker board.

After load handling Novorossyisk icebreaker with the Klavdia Elanskaya vessel that in its turn took passengers from the land went back to the Murmansk Seaport on February 06.

After coming back and being recharged with marine stores and fuel in the seaport the icebreaker will conduct next icebreaker support to Alexandra Land of the Franz Josef Land Archipelago. This time it will accompany tanker Varzuga with fuel cargo on board.
