Murmansk Branch Takes Part in Solemn Meeting

On January 11, 2017 Murmansk Branch took part in solemn procession and meeting dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first Arctic convoy PQ-7 in the seaport of Murmansk.

At the monument of the longshoremen who died during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, heads of the Murmansk region, Murmansk City organization and other officials gave solemn speeches.

During the war, the seaport of Murmansk took 27 allied convoys, processed more than two million tons of cargo, sent almost 13 thousand cars with military equipment, ammunitions and foods to the front by rail. Murmansk has actually become the main transport artery for the supply of the front cargo coming from allied countries under lend-lease contracts.

During the war years in the seaport of Murmansk 103 longshoremen were killed at their workplaces and 317 people were wounded.

The participants observed a moment of silence in the memory of all the fallen, and then laid flowers to the monument and set the funeral wreaths afloat.
