Press conference dedicated to preparations of Icebreakers Festival 2018

A press conference dedicated to the V Icebreakers Festival to be held on April 29-30 will take place in St Petersburg, at the Komsomolskaya Pravda press center on April 25, 2018.

The press conference involved Deputy Director for Navigation Safety of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Andrei Balashov, executive secretary of the Maritime Council at the Government of St Petersburg Tatyana Chekalova, chairman of the St Petersburg Committee for the Development of Tourism Andrei Mushkarev, director of the Museum of the World Ocean Branch in St Petersburg “The Icebreaker Krasin” Irina Stont and other officials.

The event has been opened by Andrei Mushkarev. He thanked all participants for creating the festival and encouraging its organization. He noted that in 2017 the Icebreakers Festival had been attended by almost half a million people. This year the record number of people is expected to visit the festival.

The participants in the event discussed a draft program of the festival due to be held on St Petersburg’s English Embankment and Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment on April 29-30.

Andrei Balashov spoke about the significance of the icebreaker fleet for Russian freezing seaports, particularly for the Gulf of Finland, including its invaluable contribution to the development of the Arctic, the work of icebreakers of the North-Western Basin Branch to build facilities in the seaport of Sabetta and a bridge in the Kerch Strait. He briefly touched upon the unique differences of icebreakers’ key particulars from other vessels.

Andrei Balashov also talked about icebreakers of the North-Western Basin Branch that will take part in the festival – the Mydyug, the Ivan Kruzenshtern, the St Petersburg and the Novorossiysk on board of which residents and guests of St Petersburg will be able to go on the days of the festival as part of the excursions on open boards.

In conclusion Andrei Balashov said visitors of the festival would have a traditional opportunity to watch the waltz of tugboats in the water area of Big Neva at 15:00 April 29.
