- operating as a lead ice breaker with high maneuvering and ice breaking capabilities (can move steadily in ice up to 2m thick);
- operating as an auxiliary ice breaker in convoys at the Northern Sea Route;
- self-maintained assistance to vessels in shallow arctic waters and in Siberia rivers estuaries;
- towage of vessels in ice and in ice-free water;
- providing assistance to vessels and conducting rescue operations in ice and in ice-free water;
- delivering necessary equipment and participating in oil leaks liquidation operations using onboard equipment;
- conducting underwater technical operations using onboard equipment and special systems at drilling and oil-extracting platforms, laying of underwater pipelines, exploration of sea bottom, conducting search and rescue operations;
- operating as a firefighting vessel during fire extinguishing at vessels, drilling and oil-extracting vessels;
- transporting scientific expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic Regions (accommodation for 90 people, more than 300 sq. m of premises for scientific laboratories, also can take two heavy helicopters like MI-8 or KA-32 onboard);
- conducting other special works at sea.

December 2011 – advance payment made at the rate of 30% of the contract value.
January-September 2012 – vessel construction documentation elaborated, suppliers of equipment for the ice breaker agreed with FSUE “Rosmorport”.
October 2012 – keel laid down, two bottom sections No. 3001 and No. 3002 weighing 120 tons in total installed.
November-December 2012 - metal work cut, bottom sections formed and welded. Elaboration of vessel construction documentation continued, suppliers of equipment for the ice breaker agreed with FSUE “Rosmorport”.
January 2013:
- metal work cut, sections formed and welded;
- 2 sections of block 2 taken to the building berth and installed.
February 2013:
- 7 sections of block 3 and 4 sections of block 2 being manufactured. A section of block 2 being installed. Installation of 2 sections of block 2 completed;
- the vessel put onto the list of vessels under construction of the Russian Federation at number 49-0171;
- certificate on the registration of property right for the vessel received;
Vessel construction progress at the end of the month – 2,49%.
March 2013:
- 8 sections of block 2 and 8 sections of block 3 being manufactured. 3 sections of block 2 and a section of block 3 being installed.
Vessel construction progress at the end of the month – 3,11%.
April 2013:
- 4 sections of block 2 and 8 sections of block 3 being manufactured. 4 sections of block 2 and 3 sections of block 3 being installed.
Vessel construction progress at the end of the month - 3,71 %.
May 2013:
- 20 sections of block 2 and 8 sections of block 3 being manufactured. 4 sections of block 2 and 6 sections of block 3 being installed.
Installation of 3 sections of block 3 completed.
Vessel construction progress at the end of the month - 4,69%.
June 2013:
- 15 sections of block 2 and 10 sections of block 3 being manufactured;
- Installation of 5 sections of block 2 and 6 sections of block 3 completed.
Vessel construction progress at the end of the month - 5,8%.
