Volga Yacht among the winners of the international regatta in the Gulf of Kaliningrad

A yacht regatta organized by the Kaliningrad Regional Yacht Club took place in the Gulf of Kaliningrad on September 9, 2017.

18 vessels participated in the yacht regatta, including the yacht Volga, under the supervision of its captain, Andrei Gorodishian, deputy head of the Maritime Safety Administration of the Kaliningrad Administration of the North-Western Basin Branch, and crew member Sergei Evchenko, head of the pilot service of the Kaliningrad Directorate of the North-Western Basin branch, chairman of the Kaliningrad yacht association.

The regatta became international this year: yachtsmen from Poland took part in the competitions.

More than 70 yachtsmen fought for the victory in four short three-mile port races.

The yachts were divided into four groups according to the racing score, and in addition, a separate group of four yachts, that did not have a measurement certificate, was created.

Volga yacht started in the group Open. Yachts with a length of 8 to 12 meters of arbitrary construction and sailing arms participated in this group. The race time for them was calculated in accordance with the absolute time of arrival at the finish without fixing the handicap on the race score.

The route of the race was a "loop" from the start line in the water area of the Kaliningrad Gulf in the area of the Rybachiy peninsula to the turning buoy near the town of Pribrezhny and back. The duration of one race was 30 to 50 minutes. Average speed of yachts on the route was 4-6 knots. The participants of the regatta went to tacking to the "gates" in the area of the swivel buoy, and they put additional sails-spinnakers and genakers on the way back.

According to the results of yacht races in the Open class, the crew of the yacht Volga, which performed under the flag of FSUE "Rosmorport", took an honorable second place.
