The North-Western Basin Branch Director Participates in the Meeting of the Maritime Board of the Government of St. Petersburg

The North-Western Basin Branch Director Sergei Pylin participated in the joint session on sea and river transport operations, on ports and coastal infrastructure and sea and river tourism of the Maritime Board of the Government of St. Petersburg, which was held on December 7, 2016 in the conference hall of the North-Western Basin Branch and chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Transport Committee of St. Petersburg City Administration Alexei Lvov.

During the meeting the issues of passenger transportation and tariff rates in that area, the construction and reconstruction of berthing facilities for passenger services in the seaports, such as the Big Port St.-Petersburg and the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg were discussed, and the findings of the previously adopted by the Maritime Council of the Government of St. Petersburg focused on the sea cruise, ferry and yacht tourism development in St. Petersburg were considered.

In his speech, Sergey Pylin informed the participants of the meeting about the progress of the ongoing preparations for realization of the project for the construction of the Sea Passenger Terminals at the Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment and the Promenade des Anglais, scheduled for 2019. Taking into account the significant amount of projected capital investments necessary for realization of this infrastructure project and considering the concernment that St. Petersburg’s administration and business representatives have in its successful completion, according to the Branch, it seems appropriate to consider co-financing the project by all persons concerned.

The Branch Director also pointed out that it will be most advisable at given stage to include into the construction and reconstruction program the installation of the border-crossing checkpoints at the state border of the Russian Federation on the corresponding checkpoint facilities in the course of sea passenger terminals reconstruction.
