Atlantic Salmon Release to the Neva and Narova rivers By The North-Western Basin Branch

Within the implementation of environmental protection measures conducted by the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch  and related to the compensation of damage caused to aquatic bioresources and their living environment during repair dredging works of 2012-2015 in the seaports Big Port Saint Petersburg and Ust-Luga water areas in the presence of the representatives of the North-Western Territorial Directorate of the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency:

- On May 29-30 25,1 thous. of one-year-old Atlantic salmons that had average individual weight 18-20 gramm were released into the Neva river in the Vsevolozhsky region;
- On May 30-31 60,7 thous. of one-year-old Atlantic salmons that had average individual weight 20 gramm were released into the Narova river in the Leningradskaya region;

Expenses of the North-Western Basin Branch for the purchase of one-year-old salmons from the specialized fish-breeding organization and their further release amounted to almost 15,7 mln rubles.

In the course of implementation of measures on artificial reproduction of aquatic bioresources, for the purpose of the  indemnification of the damage afflicted during repair dredging works in the Bolshoi Port Saint-Petersburg and Ust-Luga seaports water areas this release of one-year-old salmons was the seventh release of fish juveniles.

In total almost 46.2 mln rubles were spent for the purchase and release of more than 538 thous. of fish juveniles of whitefish, trout, Atlantic salmon and bull-trout for these purposes by the North-Western Basin Branch for the period from 2012 till present.
