On the day of the 70^th anniversary of the capture of the fortress city of Königsberg employees of the Kaliningrad Department of the North-Western Basin Branch on 9 April 2015 took part in the festive march, meeting and ceremony of laying the flowers to the Kaliningrad memorial to 1200 Guardsmen.

The participant of the festive events paid tribute to the memory of all who had died during the capture of Königsberg and honored those who had survived.

The capture of Königsberg is one of the brightest pages in the history of the final stage of the Great Patriotic War. The capture operation was performed from 6 to 9 April 1945 by the 3^rd Belorussian Front under command of Marshal of the Soviet Union A.M. Vasilevsky with minimal losses.

The end of the Battle of Königsberg and the capture of the fortress city was marked by first-rate fireworks in Moscow with 324 guns making 24 artillery salvos.

In commemoration of the capture of Königsberg a medal “For the Capture of Königsberg” was established, and 98 military units took the name “Königsberg”.
