On December 15, 2015 the 100 000^th railway carriage was loaded by efforts and technical means of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Department on the railway ferry complex in the seaport of Kaliningrad.

The railway carriage, transferring feeding oilseed meal, was loaded as a part of a 61 car consignment on the Baltiysk sea ferry, heading for the seaport of Ust-Luga.

From the start of the railway ferry complex operation 9 years ago, there have been processed 1209 vessels and handled almost 8.2 million tonnes of cargo of various kinds.

The construction of the railway sea terminal in the water area and territory of basin No. 4 in Baltiysk in the seaport of Kaliningrad, customer and developer of which was FSUE “Rosmorport”, was finished in 2006 and became an event of federal importance. The main objective behind the complex construction is to organize railway ferry links between the Kaliningrad region and the main territory of Russia in order to ensure stable and independent transport communication with the Kaliningrad region.

In June-July of 2006 the enterprise carried out roll on and roll off of railway carriages on Baltiysk and Klaipeda sea ferries as a part of trial operation of the ferry complex, and in 2007 the railroad ferry was finally put into operation and in two years reached its design target values.

Currently, 3 sea ferries, calling at the seaport of Kaliningrad up to 5 times a week, are operating on the ferry lines in the seaport where the railroad ferry complex operates.

On average, over 1,1 thousand railway carriages are rolled on and rolled off sea ferries monthly by the Kaliningrad Department of the North-Western Basin Branch – the railway ferry complex operator.
