Russian Railways Delegation Visits Railway Ferry Complex of FSUE “Rosmorport” in Kaliningrad Seaport

On 01 October 2015 a delegation of OAO Rossiyskiye Zheleznye Dorogi (Russian Railways, a joint-stock company) headed by Senior Vice President Anatoly Krasnoshchek visited the railway ferry complex of FSUE “Rosmorport” in Kaliningrad Seaport in the framework of their visit to Kaliningrad Region.

Deputy Director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Andrey Moshkov showed the guests infrastructure of the ferry complex and a presentation about capabilities of the marine terminal.

During the visit issues of future development of railway-ferry communication and increase of efficiency of Ust-Luga – Baltiysk ferry line were discussed.

The delegates were also shown the process of transshipment of sugar sacks having arrived from Brasil. The sacks were taken from containers and put into railway carriages, which were then placed on board of the Ambal sea railway ferry. The ferry is to take the carriages to Ust-Luga Seaport. After unloading the carriages are to make their way by railroad to destination point.

Over 9 months 2015 the North-Western Basin Branch transshipped almost 18.2 thousand wagons, more than 3.5 thousand RO-RO cargoes and also serviced almost 4.7 passengers arriving by ships at the railway ferry complex in Kaliningrad Seaport.

The total transshipment volume at the railway ferry complex is more than 1.4 million tons of cargoes, which is 36.4 % more than the same figure in 2014.
