The FSUE “Rosmorport” North-West Basin Branch Kaliningrad Department on 16 May celebrated the 20^th jubilee of the port vessel traffic system in Kaliningrad Seaport.

In 1991 a group of experts headed by pilot Boris Mikhailov initiated the creation of a private small enterprise “Vessel Traffic Service”, which constructed and certified the port vessel traffic system in Kaliningrad Seaport. The Arkhyz tanker flying the flag of Azerbaijan became the first vessel, which on 16 May 1994 entered Kaliningrad Seaport under supervision of the Kaliningrad Port VTS.

In January 1998 the vessel traffic service was incorporated into the state establishment “Marine administration of Kaliningrad Port”, and in 2005 in the course of the administrative reform of the public administration system in Russian seaports it was secured to the FSUE “Rosmorport” Kaliningrad Branch.

At present the Kaliningrad Port VTS functions as part of the Kaliningrad Department of the North-West Basin Branch. For 20 years it has constantly provided navigation safety in the water area of Kaliningrad Seaport and the Kaliningrad Sea Canal.
Since the moment the VTS facilities were secured to FSUE “Rosmorport”, the enterprise has not only provided its efficient and safe operation, but also constantly implemented measures aimed at its development and improvement. In 2006-2009 the enterprise has conducted massive reconstruction of all VTS facilities, which allowed the VTS to reach the highest world technical standards.

Among the participants of the jubilee festive events were Andrey Moshkov, Deputy Director of the North-West Basin Branch – Head of the Kaliningrad Department; Andrey Balashov, Deputy Director for Navigation Safety of the North-West Basin Branch; employees of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Headquarters and the North-West Basin Branch and representatives of CJSC Tranzas, which had earlier conducted the reconstruction of the Kaliningrad Port VTS and is now supporting and updating the software of its equipment.
