Largest herd of beef cattle transshipped in the seaport of Kaliningrad

The FSUE "Rosmorport" North-West Basin Branch Kaliningrad Department transshipped the largest in the Russian history gerd of beef cattle, which arrived in the seaport of Kaliningrad form Texas (USA).

In the framework of an investment project on development of beef cattle breeding in Kaliningrad Region of the Miratorg Agricultural Holding 10 244 heads of Aberdeen-Angus cattle, including 240 bulls, and also 36 horses arrived at the railway ferry complex of FSUE "Rosmorport". The animals were unloaded on December 7-9, 2012. All animals were transshipped from the vessel to special vehicles with the help of a metallic landing apron. Representatives of the acricultural holding pointed out the professionalism of the FSUE "Rosmorport" employees.

The animals were settled at the farms located in Ozersky area of Kaliningrad Region.

The railway ferry complex was put into operation in 2006-2007 to support sea ferry lines Ust-Luga – Baltiysk, and Baltiysk – Sassnitz.

The overall area size of the ferry complex is 17.48 hectares, and the length of the inner harbor railways is 7.7 thousand meters. 

In 2011 the total cargo turnover of the railway ferry complex exceeded 1 million tons.
