Ferry "George Ots" sailed off to the seaport of Vladivostok on the Northern sea route

On August, 28th, 2010 auto-passenger ferry "George Ots" sailed off to the seaport of Vladivostok where the ferry will be used on local ferry lines, and since 2012 – in servicing the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. The greater part of auto-passenger ferry "George Ots" way will include the Northern sea route.

Auto-passenger ferry "George Ots" was built in 1980 in Szczecin, Poland. "George Ots" is named in honor of the popular Soviet and Estonian opera and pop singer George Ots. In November, 2002 "George Ots" was bought by State Institution «Sea Administration of the port of St.-Petersburg» from Estonian company ESKO. Since June, 2003 the ferry was used for transportation of passengers and cargoes from St.-Petersburg to the Kaliningrad region and back.

In March, 2004 the ferry was transferred to the economic authority of FSUE "Rosmorport" and fixed after the St.-Petersburg branch of the enterprise, being used on the ferry line St.-Petersburg - Baltiysk - St.-Petersburg.

During the operation on the ferry line St.-Petersburg - Baltiysk - St.-Petersburg since March, 2004 till August, 2010 ferry "George Ots" transported more than 53 thousand passengers and 16 thousand vehicles.

At the moment the St.-Petersburg branch considers an acquisition offer of a new motor vessel and its usage on the ferry line St.-Petersburg - Kaliningrad and St.-Petersburg - Baltiysk. The requirements for the new motor vessel include efficiency and possibility to make all-the-year-round trips
