Sabetta sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS and NAVTEX coast stations pass regular examination

Based on the results of the Rosmorrechflot’s regular inspection, FSUE “Rosmorport” has obtained certificates No. GMDSS3/1-3309-2023 dated 22.11.2023, No. GMDSS-3/1-3310-2023 dated 22.11.2023 and No. GMDSS-3/1-3311-2023 dated 22.11.2023 on conformity of the Sabetta sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS and NAVTEX coast stations, respectively, with the requirements of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation Order No. 226 of 23.07.2015 and on possibility of their use in GMDSS.

The Sabetta sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS coast stations and the NAVTEX station were built in 2018 and in the same year successfully passed field tests and certification on their conformity with the current requirements for the operation of this equipment in the GMDSS system.

The Sabetta sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS coast stations include control center, Rx and Tx radio stations located in the seaport of Sabetta. The range of the Sabetta sea area A1 GMDSS coast station is 25.7 nautical miles, and the range of the Sabetta sea area A2 GMDSS receiving and transmitting coast station is 173 nautical miles.

The facilities of the Sabetta NAVTEX coast station, in their turn, include a control center and a transmitter in the seaport of Sabetta. The coast station transmits navigation and meteorological information in the NAVAREA XX area. The range of the transmitter of the Sabetta NAVTEX coast station is 184 nautical miles between 42° and 255° azimuths in the South direction and 281 nautical miles between 255° and 42° azimuths in the North direction.

The Sabetta sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS coast stations are used for:

- continuous radio watch and radio exchange in the range of very high frequencies (for area A1) and intermediate and short waves (for area A2) of the maritime mobile service; constant possibility of receiving distress messages using a digital selective call and stable communication with vessels in the mode of radiotelephony;

- operational communication between vessels and the Dixon Marine Rescue Coordination Center of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Administration of Seaports of the Western Arctic” to organize search and rescue operations;

- performing procedures for processing distress, urgency and safety calls using digital selective call technology with vessels at sea located within an area which boundary is determined in accordance with the criteria established by the International Maritime Organization for sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS shore-based radio stations and for ensuring safety;

- transmission of distress, urgency and safety radio signals to vessels at sea, as well as navigation and meteorological information to sea coastal areas.

On average, more than 4 thousand vessels are located annually in the area of operation of the Sabetta sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS coast stations.

In 2023, the operators of the Sabetta sea areas A1 and A2 GMDSS coast stations provided radio communications for the operation on searching and rescuing of the missing crew member of the XIN ZI LANG 1 vessel (flag of China) in the area of the sea channel of the Gulf of Ob in the Kara Sea, and also participated in the evacuation of a vessel crew member in need of medical assistance.
