FSUE “Rosmorport” takes part in international forum on shipbuilding development in Arkhangelsk

The II International Forum “Arctic Shipbuilding” held on June 20-21 is currently underway at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University in Arkhangelsk. The event aimed at paying attention to the development of Russia’s shipbuilding and joining the efforts of the power, business and science to resolve experimental problems within the exploration of the Arctic region involved FSUE “Rosmorport” Deputy General Director Vasily Strugov and director of the Arkhangelsk Branch Kirill Gaida.

In his speech at a session “Artic Navigation and Prospects for the Development of Shipbuilding”, Vasily Strugov spoke about a program for renovating the FSUE “Rosmorport” fleet. As of today the enterprise uses over 270 vessels, including icebreakers, tugboats, pilots’ boats, mark boats, dredgers and other specialized vessels, which ensure smooth operation of the port services. Every year three training sailing ships are provided to organize navigation practice for hundreds of cadets of the industry’s educational institutions.

Special attention was paid to the construction of the icebreaker fleet. Under the comprehensive plan for modernizing and expanding the infrastructure till the year 2024, nine icebreakers are planned to be built as part of renovating the fleet of icebreakers.

In 2018 FSUE “Rosmorport” signed an agreement to build a Project 22740M shallow-draft icebreaker. Totally, till the year 2024 four icebreakers of such project are expanded to be built. At present, project documentation on the prototype is being developed and coordinated by watchdog agencies.

In 2019 a contract is planned to be concluded to build a linear icebreaker of Icebreaker 7 Class, Project 21900M with the increased output on propellers of up to 18 MW.

“The enterprise rivets special attention to integrating innovation solutions related to the construction of vessels”, Vasily Strugov said.

As part of the sessions and round-table meetings, the participants in the forum discussed prospects for the development of shipbuilding, possibilities to use liquefied natural gas on vessels under the Arctic conditions and specifics of the tourist fleet for Artic routes.
