FSUE Rosmorport provides icebreaking assistance services in 16 freezing seaports of the Russian Federation and on approaches to them, as well as paid icebreaking assistance services in the water area of the Northern Sea Route and in other seaports and water areas.
Icebreaking service in the water areas and the approaches to the freesing seaports are provide by the following branches of FSUE "Rosmorport":
- Azovo-Chernomorsky Basin Branch (seaports of Azov, Eysk, Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog);
- Arctic Basin Branch (seaports of Arkhangelsk and Kandalaksha);
- Astrakhan Branch (seaports of Astrakhan and Olya);
- North-Eastern Basin Branch (seaport of Vanino and Magadan);
- North-Western Basin Branch (seaports of Big Port of Saint-Petersburg, Vyborg, Vysotsk, Passenger Port of Saint-Petersburg, Primorsk, and Ust-Luga).
The works connected to provision of icebreaking assistance to vessels in ice fields and other seaports and water areas can be conducted by the following icebreakers of FSUE "Rosmorport":
- Arctic Basin Branch;
- Far Eastern Basin Branch;
- North-Western Basin Branch.
FSUE "Rosmorport" renders icebreaking assistance services in strict compliance with the requirements of:
- Merchant Shipping Code of the Russian Federation;
- Rules of icebreaking assistance to vessels set by Common Rules for Navigation and Mooring of Vessels in the Seaports of the Russian Federation approved by the Ministry of Transport of Russia order dated 12.11.2021 № 395;
- Compulsory resolutions in the corresponding seaports, and also resolutions of seaport masters and basin committees of ice operations headquarters, as far as control over the rules of icebreaking assistance to vessels in the corresponding seaports.
To provide icebreaking services, FSUE “Rosmorport” uses 33 non-nuclear icebreakers and two ice-class tugs certified by:
- Russian Maritime Register of Shipping:
a) 3 icebreakers with Icebreaker8 ice class;
b) 4 icebreakers with Icebreaker7 ice class;
c) 13 icebreakers with Icebreaker6 ice class;
d) 2 tugs with Arc5 ice class;
- Russian Classification Society: 13 icebreakers.
Nine icebreakers of the enterprise have conventional documents, allowing them to operate international voyages.
The combination of technical opportunities, highly qualified crews and technical experts, who operate and maintain icebreakers, and are able to solve tasks of any difficulty in that field, guarantees high quality of services rendered by FSUE "Rosmorport", which has been proved many times by the results of the works done.

Participation of the Kapitan Chechkin icebreaker (Astrakhan Branch) in geophysical exploration of the northern corner of the Caspian Sea.
2005
Participation of the chartered icebreaker Magadan in the rescue operation on supply of fuel to the Koryaksky Autonomous District.
2006
Participation of the Kapitan Chadayev icebreaker (Arkhangelsk Branch) in the rescue operation to escort mixed vessels from the Pechora Sea.
2007
Towage of the AMT Explorer barge, the Amazon self-propelled drilling station in the western corner of the Artctic, and also towage of the energy block of the Kislogubskaya flood electrical power station on the route Severodvinsk - Motovsky Bay by the Dikson icebreaker (Arkhangelsk Branch).

The Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker provides icebreaking assistance during import of supplies to the Argentinian antarctic polar station General Belgrano II.

Preparation of ice canals in the lower course of the Enysey River, and also participation of the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker (Murmansk Branch) in the expedition educational voyages among the Russian geographical society expedition team.
2011
Participation of the chartered icebreaker Magadan (Magadan Branch) in the rescue operation to lrescue the fishing boats out of the ice jam in Sakhalin Bay of the Okhotsk Sea.
Towage by the Dikson icebreaker (Arkhangelsk Branch) of the SMITHBARGE 2 barge and the Amazon self-propelled sailing drill station along the two routes: Yamburg-Kharasavey and Murmansk-Yugorsky-Shar-Kharasavey-Varnek-Murmansk.
Participation of the Dikson icebreaker (Arkhangelsk Branch) in the operation to rescue the Kapitan Kravtsov ship and provide its towage to Arkhangelsk Seaport.
Provision of icebreaking assistance in the inner water ways of the Russian Federation with the use of the Kapitan Zarubin icebreaker (North-Western Basin Branch) and Kapitan Chechkin icebreaker (Astrakhan Branch).

2017
Icebreaking assistance rendered by the Moscow, the Tor and the Vladivostok icebreakers in the water area of the seaport of Sabetta within the project for building a liquefied natural gas plant.
Escorts of two vessels carrying cargoes to build a coastal infrastructure of the floating nuclear power unit in the seaport of Pevek conducted by the Kapitan Dranitsyn and the Admiral Makarov icebreakers.
The Novorossiysk icebreaker supported convoys of vessels carrying cargoes and passengers of Frantz Josef Land Archipelago’s Alexandra Land Island and the work of an expedition group of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “The State Scientific Center ‘The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institutes” when carrying out marine hydrometeorological and ice researches, conducting experiments to develop a plan on the protection of a drilling ship from icebergs in the Kara Sea.

Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker rendering services for icebreaker support in the water area of the Northern Sea Route in the section from the convoy meeting point in the area of Cape Zhelaniya/Kara Strait to the water area of the seaport of Sabetta.

Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker rendering services for icebreaker support of the Varandey fixed offshore ice-resistant off-loading terminal in Pechora Sea.
Vladivostok icebreaker and Novorossyisk icebreaker rendering services for keeping round-the-clock watch to manage ice operations during the well construction from the drill unit on the continental shelf in the water area of Kara Strait.
2019
The Moskva icebreaker renders services for towing and mooring operations and pilotages of vessels in the water area of the seaport of Sabetta.
The Krasin icebreaker renders services for pilotage of vessels in the Kara Sea.
The Captain Khlebnikov icebreaker provides support for tankers in the seaport of Prigorodnoye and makes a series of voyages on the route between the seaport of Anadyr and Wrangel Island.
The Novorossiysk icebreaker provides support for tankers to and from the oil export terminal in the seaport of De Kastri and also renders services to provide support for the Silver Explorer cruise vessel in the water area of the Northern Sea Route to Uyedineniye Island in the Kara Sea from Kolyuchin Island in the Sea of Chukotsk.
2020
Provision of icebreaking services in the area of the Utrenniy LNG marine terminal with the use of icebreakers Moskva, Sankt-Petersburg, and Tor.
Provision of the research station Polarstern with services by the icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn, as well as the delivery of supplies to the icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn by the icebreaker "Admiral Makarov" within the framework of the international project MOSAiC.
Provision by the icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov of services for icebreaking assistance for vessels in the water area of the seaport of Prigorodnoye and on approaches to it.
2021
Icebreaking assistance of three cargo vessels by the Kapitan Khlebnikov icebreaker, associated with the delivery of a new wintering complex weighing almost 7 thousand tons, as well as the necessary fuel and maintenance personnel for the inland Antarctic station Vostok.
Icebreaking support for ultra-late delivery of household cargo by vessels to remote areas of the Eastern Arctic and Chukotka (Pevek seaport) in severe ice conditions of strong ice compression and large hummocks caused by prolonged exposure to wind loads, using the Kapitan Dranitsyn and Novorossiysk icebreakers.
Provision by the Vladivostok icebreaker of icebreaking assistance to cargo vessels from the ice edge in the area of the Franz Josef Land archipelago to the Sever Bay of Alexandra Land Island.
2022
Ultra-late roundtrip icebreaking assistance for the Arkady Chernyshev motor vessel performed by the Magadan icebreaker in order to deliver important cargo to the seaport of Anadyr as part of the northern delivery.
2023
The icebreaker Dikson, together with the icebreaker Kapitan Chadayev provided icebreaking assistance for a diesel-electric submarine of the Indian Navy in the White Sea.
2024
Redeployment of the icebreakers Kapitan Dranitsyn and Sankt-Peterburg to the Far East in order to provide icebreaker escort for vessels at the Port Elga coal terminal of the seaport of Vanino and the adjacent waters of the Okhotsk Sea.
2025
The icebreakers Kapitan Dranitsyn, Sankt-Peterburg and Kapitan Khlebnikov provided icebreaking services to vessels in difficult ice conditions in the Sea of Okhotsk in section No. 3 of the seaport of Vanino water area (the marine terminal of Port Elga, LLC) during the 2024-2025 winter-spring navigation period.
FSUE "Rosmorport" began its icebreaking assistance practice in the approaches and the water areas of the freezing seaports of the Russian Federation in February 2004, when the Saint-Petersburg Branch of the enterprise, which was founded in the previous year, began to provide icebreaking services in the Big Port of Saint-Petersburg Seaport with the help of the 12 diesel-electrical icebreakers secured to FSUE "Rosmorport". By the end of 2004 icebreaking services were rendered by 7 branches of the enterprise.
At present FSUE "Rosmorport" operates 35 icebreakers and ice-class tugs, which have been secured to the enterprise, bought at the expense of the enterprise, and constructed at the expense of budget investments or the enterprise since 2004.
It is important to note that FSUE “Rosmorport” attaches much importance to the development of the icebreaker fleet.
The following vessels were built at domestic shipyards under control of and in favor of the enterprise:
- two modern icebreakers, the Moskva and the Saint-Petersburg of Project 21900 with the capacity of 16.5 MW each, were built in 2005-2009.
- three modern icebreakers – the Vladivostok, the Murmansk and the Novorossiysk of Project 21900M with the capacity of 18 MW each were built in 2012-2016,
- during the period from 2012 to 2020, a linear diesel icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin with a capacity of 25 MW,
Those icebreakers have reinforced the enterprise’s icebreakers group in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland.
At present, FSUE “Rosmorport” as a building contractor takes part in implementing a project on the construction of an icebreaker of Project 21900M2 with a capacity of 18 MW, Icebreaker7 class, and two shallow-draft icebreakers of Project 22740M with a capacity of 6 MW each, Icebreaker6 class.
