FSUE "Rosmorport" icebreakers start providing icebreaking assistance in the Gulf of Finland

FSUE "Rosmorport" icebreakers Semyon Dezhnev and Kapitan Izmailov began to carry out icebreaking assistance in the seaports of the Gulf of Finland. The captains of the seaports Big Port of Saint Petersburg, Vyborg and Vysotsk issued orders to start the icebreaking assistance period ten days earlier, and in the seaport of Ust-Luga almost two months earlier than previous year due to the early onset of ice formation in the Gulf of Finland.

According to the approved Plan for the arrangement of icebreakers for the period of icebreaking assistance of vessels in 2021-2022, 12 icebreakers, including the world's largest diesel-electric icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin, are expected to operate in the freezing Russian ports in the Baltic Sea. All line and port icebreakers of the North-Western Basin Branch were prepared in advance in accordance with the established deadlines and are ready to start work when necessary.

FSUE "Rosmorport" provides icebreaking services for vessels in 15 freezing seaports of Russia and on the approaches to them. Earlier, in late November, the FSUE "Rosmorport" icebreaking fleet had already begun to provide assistance for vessels in the White Sea.
