Cargo turnover in Russian seaports continues to grow

The cargo turnover in the seaports of Russia during the period from January till July 2021 increased by 1.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, or to 482.88 million tons. At the same time, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo decreased by 3.3%, or to 245.12 million tons, mainly due to a decrease in transshipment of oil (by 6.1%). The cargo turnover for dry cargo increased by 7.1% compared to the results of the first seven months of 2020, or to 237.76 million tons.

From January till July 2021, an increase in dry cargo turnover was shown by the seaports of the Azov-Black Sea (10.4%), Far Eastern (7.2%), Baltic (6.6%) and Arctic (1.6%) basins. An increase in the dry cargo turnover was recorded, in particular, in the seaports of Taman – by 2.3 times, Vladivostok – by 30%, Ust-Luga – by 12%, Vanino – by 14%, Big Port of St. Petersburg – by 6%, Shahtersk – by 18%, Azov – by 22%, Murmansk – by 4%, Nakhodka – by 4%, Novorossiysk – by 2%, Tuapse – by 5%, Kaliningrad – by 5%, Nevelsk – by 24%, Eysk – by 11%, Vyborg – by 38%, Taganrog – by 12%.

The following seaports showed an increase in liquid bulk cargo turnover: Taman – by 10%, Vysotsk – by 5%, Rostov-on-Don – by 13%, Temryuk – by 24%, Astrakhan – by 45%, Sabetta – by 1%, Taganrog – by 16%, Sovetskaya Gavan – by 46%, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – by 6%, Magadan – by 5% and Kholmsk – by 14%.

It is worth noting that the largest increase in dry cargoes was shown by transshipment of coal and coke by 16.4%, cargo in containers by 7.5% and sugar by 9.8 times. The turnover of general cargoes increased by 6.7% due to growth of transshipment of ferrous metals (+8.3%), refrigerated cargoes (+28.1%, including growth of transshipment of fish and fish products by 42.1%), scrap metal (+6.1%) and package cargoes (+0.8%). The transshipment of rolled cargoes (ro-ro) increased by 25.0%.

There were transshipped 382.44 million tons of export cargoes (+2.1%), 23.26 million tons of imported cargoes (+11.3%), 37.41 million tons of transit cargoes (+1.3%) and 39.77 million tons of coastal cargoes (-8.3%).

According to the results of work from January till July 2021, 11.7 thousand passenger vessels were served in seaports (2.2 times growth) and 4 872.4 thousand people were served by maritime passenger terminals. The main number of passengers was served at specialized passenger terminals in the seaports of Sevastopol – 4 542.6 thousand people, Yalta – 191.6 thousand people, Sochi – 107.3 thousand people.

For the period from January till July 2021, the company's revenue on harbour dues increased by 0.3% or to 11.848 billion rubles, the total volume indicators of serviced vessels decreased by 1.8% or to 1 012.8 million GT, including due to a decrease in overseas vessels by 0.8% or to 835.5 million GT and cabotage vessels by 6.3% or to 177.3 million GT.

The decrease in volume indicators of serviced vessels is mainly due to a decrease in the volume of transshipment of oil and oil products in the seaports of Primorsk, Ust-Luga, Novorossiysk, De-Kastri, Prigorodnoye, coal and coke in the seaport of Vysotsk, grain in the seaports of Kavkaz (including vessels passing through the Kerch–Yenikale Canal) and Rostov-on-Don, rolling cargoes in the seaports of Kavkaz, Kerch, Vanino, Kholmsk; decrease in the number of dry cargo vessels coming from inland waterways and transiting the seaports of Rostov, Azov, Astrakhan, Olya; in the number of vessels entering the seaports of Nakhodka, Vostochny, Vladivostok and Kaliningrad for bunkering purposes; and decrease in volume indicators of container vessels in the seaport of the Big Port of St. Petersburg.

For the period from January to July 2021, the number of pilotage operations of FSUE "Rosmorport" increased by 2% compared to the same period in 2020, or up to 99,2 thousand operations.
