New 18-MWatt Icebreaker of Icebreaker7 Class laid down by order of FSUE “Rosmorport” (CPMI)

Laying down of the new ice-breaker with capacity of 18 MWatt and Icebreaker7 ice class by order of FSUE “Rosmorport” took place at the shipyard of the Pella factory. In September 2019 FSUE “Rosmorport” signed a contract with JSC “Pella” for the construction of a new vessel. The project 21900M2 diesel-electric linear icebreaker will be constructed under the 2018 Comprehensive Plan for the Modernization and Expansion of the Trunk Infrastructure, scheduled until 2024 to ensure year-round operation of the freezing seaports in the Far Eastern Basin.

The new project 21900M2 icebreaker is planned to be constructed on the basis of the 21900M project and the draft design of the icebreaker developed by Vympel Design Bureau JSC at the expense of FSUE “Rosmorport” own funds, taking into account modern international convention requirements, including the reduction of harmful emissions from marine engines.

"The project 21900M2 icebreaker is a continuation of a series of well-proven project 21900M icebreakers - Murmansk, Vladivostok, and Novorossiysk. The project has been improved, the ice class of the vessel has been upgraded to Icebreaker7. The new icebreaker will strengthen the icebreaker fleet of FSUE “Rosmorport” in the Far East and ensure uninterrupted and timely supply of critical goods, enhance the development of the region and its economic potential," – said FSUE “Rosmorport” Deputy General Director for Fleet Vasily Strugov.

"The construction of the vessel begins at a very difficult time. The difficulties associated with the coronavirus pandemic have affected the world. But we hope that our partners will make every effort to ensure that the construction schedules are adhered to regardless of potential difficulties both with the supply of shipboard equipment and with the organization of shipbuilders' work. This is our first large-scale project with Pella, and we are looking forward to continuing cooperation and successful implementation of joint projects," – he added.

The vessel is planned to be put into operation in 2024.
