Icebreaking fleet of the FSUE “Rosmorport” will be close to 40 vessels this year, it is the largest icebreaker group in the world

The world's largest icebreaking flotilla of FSUE “Rosmorport”, numbering 37 vessels, will be replenished by the end of the year with one of the most powerful non-nuclear icebreakers “Viktor Chernomyrdin” with the capacity of 25 MW, the press service of Rosmorrechflot reported on Friday, citing information materials presented at Moscow conference for senior management and directors of FSUE “Rosmorport” branches. 

Completion and factory testing of the linear icebreaker “Viktor Chernomyrdin” of project 22600 is underway at the site of JSC “Admiralty shipyards” (part of JSC “OSC”).

In 2020, the company used 16 linear icebreakers, 7 linear shallow-seated icebreakers, as well as 13 auxiliary and port icebreakers and icebreaking tugs to provide icebreaking services. 

In general, the fleet of FSUE “Rosmorport” is planned to be replenished with 24 new vessels by 2023: in 2020, it will include 14 new units, in 2021-2022 – 10 new vessels.

Since the beginning of this year, the company's fleet has already included 10 new vessels. These are five tugs, three small vessels of various classes and two modern pilot boats with a hybrid power plant. By the end of the year, it is planned to accept, among other things, the already mentioned linear icebreaker with a capacity of 25 MW and two earth-moving barges. In 2021-2022, it is planned to replenish the company's fleet with two new-generation automobile and railway ferries, for providing sea communication with Kaliningrad region along the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line, five tugs, one hydrographic measuring boat, one multi-functional vessel and one oil garbage collector used for floating barriers' installation.

At the moment, the company's fleet includes 277 vessels of various classes and purposes, which makes FSUE “Rosmorport” one of the largest shipowners in Russia. Repair of the enterprise's fleet for the first half of 2020 was completed ahead of schedule by 6% from the plan.
