Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Ditrikh made a working trip to Dagestan on October 5, 2018. FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrey Lavrishchev accompanied the minister.

As part of the trip a meeting was held to discuss the development of the transport infrastructure in the region. The meeting was also attended by head of Dagestan Vladimir Vasilyev. The Russian minister said transport is the major component of the economic growth of any region and improvement of living standards of the population.

The participants in the meeting also visited the seaport of Makhachkala. Under a draft comprehensive plan for developing the trunk infrastructure a new grain terminal is planned to be created.

Special attention was paid to prospects for the development of the seaport of Makhachkala. In order to increase the port terminal throughput several factors should be foreseen in the right way. It is necessary to determine cargo movement trends in the Caspian region. At the same time, the port’s transport accessibility should be improved. At present, the efforts are joined to synchronize all types of transport: road transport, railways and harbor’s transport that will make the port terminal throughput maximally loaded.
