Ice barriers put into operation in the seaport of Sabetta

Pursuant to Rosmorrechflot Resolution No. 89-RU89506000-НЖ-39/47-2018 of December 21, 2018 a deep-submergence part of the South-Eastern ice barrier and the North-Western ice barrier have been put into operation in the seaport of Sabetta.

The above-mentioned facilities have been built since August 2015 in compliance with the federal target program “The Development of Russia’s Transport System (2010-2020)” within the implementation of the major Russian infrastructural project for building facilities of the seaport of Sabetta. FSUE “Rosmorport” acted as a developer of these facilities.

While building the deep-submergence part of the South-Eastern ice barrier three areas were created the construction of which consists of the piled foundation and the reinforced concrete head with the total length of 774 meters and the breadth of more than 12 meters. While creating this facility a total of 1,242 piles were installed, about 50,000 cubic meters of sandy gravel were used and a total of 16,800 cubic meters of concrete were poured.

The North-Western ice barrier comprises the root part and the deep-submergence structure. The root of this facility, which consists of two sections, represents a fill structure of the piled foundation and the reinforced concrete head with the total length of 760 meters and the breadth of about 12 meters. The deep-submerge part of the facility consisting of three sections also represents a fill structure of the piled foundation and the reinforced concrete head with the total length of 510 meters and the breadth of about 12 meters. While building this facility a total of 1,404 piles were installed, about 63,900 cubic meters of sandy gravel were used and a total of 27,500 cubic meters of concrete were poured.

The construction of the South-Eastern ice barrier and the North-Western ice barrier is the final stage of the measures taken to protect the water area of the seaport of Sabetta from the seasonal movement of ice and enable its all-year-round operation.
