FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director takes part in meeting on the development of the Caspian region transport infrastructure

The Russian State Council Presidium gathered for a meeting entitled “The Development of the Transport and Energy Infrastructure is the Basis of Economic Growth of the Caspian Region” in Astrakhan on April 19, 2019. The meeting was chaired by Russian presidential aide Igor Levitin.

The meeting involved head of the working group of the Russian State Council Presidium, Astrakhan Region acting governor Sergei Morozov, representatives of different regional agencies and business communities. FSUE “Rosmorport” was represented by General Director Andrey Lavrishchev and director of the Astrakhan Branch Alexei Svyatsky.

The transport problem is of special significance for the Caspian region. Five Caspian coastal states and many other countries that move cargoes through the Astrakhan region by transit develop cooperation in the area.

Igor Levitin said one of the strategic priorities was to increase cargo turnover in the south. To this end, it is necessary to grow the amount of river transportation. “It is very important to strengthen influence in the Caspian region. Today we lose to our neighbors in this region. We should develop healthy competition. It is necessary to understand what we can propose to our consigners and cargo receivers, as well as to transit partners in order to join the north and the south,” the presidential aide said.

The session also focused on the development of the seaport of Olya and the construction of a container terminal.

For reference:

Since 2003 FSUE “Rosmorport” has carried out the functions of a project owner for the construction of the seaport of Olya. Over the 15 years 13 cargo terminals have been built and put into operation. A railroad branch linking the port and Russian railways has been extended. A motor road, which is integrated into the federal network of road has been put into operation. Facilities of a harbor cargo, passenger and motor road border crossing point have been built in the seaport. Facilities of safety navigation have been also put into operation. The capacity of the seaport of Olya amounts to 2.035 million tons.

Navigation in the seaport is made every 24 hours and the year round. In 2018 cargo turnover amounted to 423.2 tons. Grain, wood, bulk and general cargoes, ferrous metals lie at the root of cargo turnover.
