The Mir sailing ship congratulates the seaport of Hamburg on the jubilee

The Mir sailing ship took part in the celebrations marking the 830th anniversary of the creation of the seaport of Hamburg on May 10-12, 2019. The major port festival has been held within the festivities.

On those days all residents and the guests of the city had the unique opportunity to come aboard the Mir, to stand abaft its wheel and make themselves familiar with the lifestyle of sailors. An excursion has been organized on the Mir for apprentices of the Russian educational center “The House of Tchaikovsky”. Cadets told children in detail about the construction of the sailing ship, navigation training and maritime professions.

The cadets attended different entertainment and educational events ashore. They visited the most beautiful site in Hamburg – the City Hall, and also the Maritime Museum. They also took part in hop on/hop off tours.

During the festival, the Mir sailing ship was attended by Russian Consul-General in Hamburg Andrei Sharashkin. Captain of the sailing ship Andrei Orlov and Deputy Director for Economics and Finances of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Nadezhda Kalashnik congratulated the participants in the festival on the anniversary of the port and discussed fruitful cooperation.

A solemn parade devoted to Victory Day was held aboard the Mir sailing ship on the approaches toward the port of Hamburg on May 9. The Mir captain congratulated crewmembers and cadets, who underwent training on the sailing ship.
