The Mir sailing ship visits Tallinn

Over 100 cadets of nautical schools from St Petersburg, Moscow and Arkhangelsk, 24 girls among them, undergo training on the Mir sailing ship. This is the third shift of future sailors on the FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ship during the 2018 navigation. Children joined the ship in the seaport of Big Port St Petersburg on September 12. On the same day the ship has made for the open sea. during the voyage, students of industry-based higher educational institutions under the supervision of experienced instructors among crewmembers and heads of the training have started brushing up their navigation and pilots’ skills, as well as the skills on the construction of the ship and sails handling.

The training program also envision such tasks as to acquire maneuvering skills in the ports’ water areas, interact with the port authorities, train mooring operations when vessels call at Russian and foreign seaports.   

At the invitation of the leadership of the Tallinn Mayor’s Office the Mir sailing ship moored in the seaport of Vanasadam (Estonia) on September 21, 2018. Within three days everyone interested could visit the ship free of charge. The ship won the major international regatta Tall Ships Races 2018.

Young sailors have warmly received the guests and residents of the city aboard the ship, conducted fascinating excursions, put up to the construction of the legendary sailing ship and the specifics of keeping the watch. During the visit to the Estonian capital, excursions to the Old Town, the Air Harbor and ancient strongholds have been organized for young sailors.

The Mir sailing ship have been attended by the vice-mayors of Tallinn and representatives of the Tallinn Department of Culture.

Tallinn Mayor Taavi Aasa has organized a reception in honor of the sailing ship call at the seaport. The captain of the world’s fastest sailing ship, Andrei Orlov, and senior crewmembers have become honorable guests of the event.

The Mir sailing ship left the Estonian seaport on September 23 and set course for Rouen (France).
