FSUE “Rosmorport” completes repair dredging operations on the Donetsky rift

FSUE “Rosmorport” has completed repair dredging operations on the Donetsky rift. The restoration of depths on this section have been made by the Azov Basin Branch and has started the work on reducing sections limiting navigation in the seaports of Rostov-on-Don and Donetsk.

The movement of vessels on the Donetsky rift has been restricted by canal draught of 3.5 meters. The breadth of the channel is 50-100 meters that arouses concern by the industry community and could lead to restricting two-way movement on the river.

The results of the research work carried out by order of FSUE “Rosmorport” in 2018 provided the basis for project documentation on dredging operations. Optimal dimensions and depths have been determined for safe navigation.

During repairing excavation works, a dredging convoy of the Azov Basin Branch consisting of the Kuban-2 multi-bucket dredger, three hopper barges and the anchor handler will provide the breadth of the channel on the Donetsky rift from 124 meters to 242 meters and the depth to four meters that will allow for increasing permissible draft of vessels on this section up to 3.8 meters. The dredging operations, which have been carried out, will make it possible to ensure safe and stable navigation in the seaports of Rostov-on-Don and Azov.

The works on reducing limited sections on the Don River continue. Project documentation on dredging operations aimed at maintaining the depths on navigable sections of the river from the seaport of Azov (3,169 km) to 3,147 km and 3,142.4 km and more to the settlement of Aksai (3,121 km).
