International Maritime Organization Secretary-General visits Nadezhda sailing ship

On September 17, 2017 International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Kitack Lim visited the Nadezhda ship.

He was accompanied by Russian Transport Deputy Minister, head of the Federal Agency for Maritime and Inland Shipping Viktor Olersky, director of Russia's Transport Ministry Department for State Policy in Marine and Inland Shipping Vitaly Klyuyev, Rosmorrechflot deputy director Yuri Kostin, FSUE “Rosmorport” Deputy Director for Navigation Safety Viktor Vanyukov, director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Far Eastern Basin Branch Nina Osipova, Rector of the Admiral Nevelskiy Maritime State University Sergei Ogay and other officials.

It is remarkable that the official agenda and the visit  of Kitack Lim to Russia's main “window” in the Asia Pacific Region has started by attending the legendary ship and talks with future sailors – cadets of Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University. Cadets undergo training aboard the vessel.

The ship's captain, Sergei Vorobyov, and the crew greeted the honorable guests aboard the vessel. The guests took part in a small excursion. Vorobyov told them about the ship's construction, long-distance voyages and the peculiarities of training. Cadets of Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University study the art of sailing aboard the ship, met the guests by a solemn parade and demonstrated the work involving all hands by raising gaff-sails.

Kitack Lim noted the high level of training of Russian sailors and stressed that national maritime education was recognized and praised all round the world. “No doubt Russia is a naval power with solid centuries-old traditions and has a high professional human potential,” he said.

Then the IMO Secretary-General and the Rosmorrechflot Head left their memorable messages in the Honored Guests’ Book. They wished the cadets to complete education successfully and they expressed the hope that children would transform their love of sea into their future profession.
