Mir Sailing Ship Takes Part in Hanse Sail Holiday

On August 11, 2017 the Mir three-masted sailing ship moored at the seaport of Warnemunde (Germany).

The sailing ship arrived at the German port to take part in the Hanse Sail 2017 traditional city holiday. In addition to the FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ship, about 200 sailing ships from 12 world countries joined this event. The Hanse Sail program attracts many tourists, amateurs of sailing ships and maritime romanticism: this year at least one million guests are expected to attend the holiday. All visitors are offered an entertaining program: water sporting events, musical concerts, performances, fairs and fairground attractions. At the end of the holiday all guests will watch colorful fireworks.

During the mooring in Warnemunde, the Mir sailing ship will operate in the regime of “open board”. Those who wish will be conducted an excursion on the sailing ship. The vessel will become the real decoration of the city during the major three-day city holiday.

Crew members of the sailing ship will introduce guests to the ship's construction and the style of life on the one of the most beautiful and fastest vessels. Cadets of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping will take an active part in the festival. Cadets are undergoing navigational training aboard the sailing ship. Children will attend musical concerts, performances of puppet shows. They will take part in sportive competitions.

Every voyage of the ship has special features that will give the unique opportunity to its participants to take power of endurance and firmness, and gain experience, as well as to acquire teamwork skills. The Mir sailing ship's participation in the German holiday is an excellent possibility for its crew to take a breath after its involvement in the prestigious race in the Baltic Sea, The Tall Ships Races 2017.

Besides getting practical skills in open sea and acquiring navigational criteria skills, during the training, children take part in different events by visiting Russian and foreign seaports and promoting maritime culture and the high level of maritime education in Russia.

The Mir will stay in Warnemunde till August 14 and then it will leave for Calais (France).
