Mir Sailing Ship Makes Course to Szczecin

On August 1, 2017 the final third stage of The Tall Ships Races 2017 started on the Klaipeda (Lithuania) – Szczecin (Poland) route.

The Mir sailing ship and other 73 sailing ships competes against other vessels to achieve victory in one of the stages of the prestigious international race. The voyage on the Baltic Sea is planned to take at least five days. The favorable weather promises an interesting race and offers hope for good results.

Under the command of the sailing ship captain, Andrei Orlov, cadets of maritime educational institutions have succeeded in sharpening their skills to make curved and four-sided sails. Even during the previous stage of the regatta on the Turku – Klaipeda route the efficient and trained actions taken by the crew allowed the ship to come from behind after the first 15 minutes of the race. In defiance of the difficult weather conditions and the increase of wind the Mir became the first vessel to have crossed the finishing line. Despite this it failed to pull off a win and get the Handicap coefficient, which determines winners according to overall rating and not by the time of arrival.

The hardships and the extreme weather united the crew even more. This time the crew of the ship is decisively primed for victory and stands ready to defend the title of one of the fastest sailing ships of Class A.

Each route of the regatta is special, which provides its participants a unique opportunity to test one’s power of endurance, firmness and gain experience.

During the stay in Szczecin, the ship will operate in a regime of “open board”. In addition, an excursion will be organized for all comers. The crew of the sailing ship will inform the guests about the ship's construction and the style of life aboard one of the fastest and most beautiful vessels.
