Mir sailing ship preparing for new training practice

On July 5, 2017 in St. Petersburg a new shift of cadets of the branch universities came aboard the Mir sailing ship.

On July 7, 125 students of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, as well as 10 cabin boys of the St. Petersburg City Palace of Youth Creativity will go to sea.

The students are to go on a fascinating journey, which will provide an opportunity to obtain primary skills for working in the navy and master the art of sailing navigation. They are to study the basic structural elements of the frigate, international and national documents on safety of navigation.

Each training practice on the frigate is unique. It is planned that this year the Mir will compete in the waters of the Baltic Sea. The regatta will be held along the route Kotka (Finland) - Tallinn (Estonia) - Turku (Finland) - Klaipeda (Lithuania) - Szczecin (Poland). In addition, the sailing ship will take part in one of the largest maritime festivals in Europe "Hanse sail 2017" (Germany), which is scheduled from 10 to 13 of August.

It is planned that the Mir sailing ship will complete the training sailing on September 28, 2017, returning to its home port of the Big Port of St. Petersburg.

The first stage of the annual training sailing practice of the FSUE "Rosmorport" frigate was completed on July 5. For more than 2.5 months, cadets have been studying the features of open sea service, conducted training and cultural events, participated in major maritime festivals in Europe, including the birthday of the port of Hamburg (Germany), the Maritime Festival "Sail Bremerhaven" (Germany), the Aalborg Regatta (Denmark), the Sail Den Helder Maritime Festival (the Netherlands).
