For reference

The construction of the Khersones three-master sailing ship started at the Gdansk shipyard (Poland) in 1987, and it was put afloat in 1989. The sailing ship was built by the original of vessels of the beginning of the XX century. The sailing ship carries full sailing rig of a “vessel” type.

When the ship was put into operation in 1989 it made training international voyages with cadets on its board headed by the Black Sea detachment of training ships. Since 2006 the ship has been laid up and its crew has been reduced.

The Khersones sailing ship is the only vessel in the world that in 1997 went round Cape Horn under the sails with shut-down engines. Up to now even sailors consider Cape Horn one of the most direful places.
