A Meeting on Construction of the Viktor Chernomyrdin Icebreaker Held in St. Petersburg

On June 29, 2017 in St. Petersburg, a meeting on issues of construction of lead diesel-electric icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin project 22600 was held at the "Baltic shipyard – Shipbuilding" Ltd., under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia, Head of Rosmorrechflot Viktor Olersky.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of Rosmorrechflot Viktor Vovk, Director General of the FSUE "Rosmorport" Andrey Tarasenko, the President of JSC "OSK" Alexei Rakhmanov, Director General of the FAE "Russian Maritime Register of Shipping" Konstantin Palnikov, Director General of "Baltic shipyard – Shipbuilding" Ltd. Alexey Kadilov, as well as representatives of JSC "CB "Vympel", OOO PKB "Petrobalt" and a number of other enterprises.

The meeting focused on the issues that affect the progress and pace of vessel construction, the state of the project documentation development. The issues of providing competent people for project management and the need to increase the number of workers involved in the implementation of the order were on the agenda.

The necessity for a more detailed schedule indicating the volume of construction planned for implementation before the end of this year was emphasized.

Following the meeting, a number of decisions outlining the list of additional measures aimed at strengthening cooperation with the contractors to eliminate delays in the preparation of documentation were adopted.

In turn, Andrey Tarasenko noted that the FSUE "Rosmorport" is ready to make further efforts to ensure technical supervision and control over the construction of the icebreaker.

Viktor Chernomyrdin is the lead ship of the innovative project that can become the basic platform for icebreakers of the next generation. It has a number of innovative solutions that distinguish it from the icebreakers of the previous generation: it has a high icebreaking capability and maneuverability, dynamic positioning system, high degree of automation, two helicopter systems, the ability to install cargo crane of high lifting capacity (up to 150 tons). The icebreaker uses a unique propulsion system that allows you to maintain control in full even when moving astern in ice. The construction of the icebreaker underway in the framework of implementation of the Federal target program "Development of transport system of Russia (2010-2020)" by the order of Rosmorrechflot for the FSUE "Rosmorport".

Launch of the icebreaker took place on 30 December 2016.
