Under the sails of friendship

On June 14, 2017 the Nadezhda training sailing ship arrived in the port of Colombo (Sri Lanka) where it will stay for four days. During this time, the events devoted to the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Sri Lanka will be held aboard the ship.

The sailing ship's greeting address involved Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe and Russian Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to Sri Lanka Alexander Karchava. A photo exhibition dedicated to the history of bilateral relations has been organized aboard the ship.

Admiral Nevelskoy State Maritime University cadets, who are undergoing training aboard the ship, have demonstrated their skills to make the sails. They also put on concert amateur performances.

Among the participants in the festivities will be officers of the Sri Lanka Navy, cadets of local maritime educational institutions, representatives of the Russia – Sri Lanka Friendship Society.

The stay in Colombo will last till June 17. Then the sailing ship will continue its journey. Vladivostok will become its finishing point.
