On February 16, 2017, within the framework of the business trip Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation – Head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency Viktor Olersky, and General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport” Andrey Tarasenko, visited Baltic Shipyard, Ltd. Multifunctional line diesel-electric icebreaker named after Viktor Chernomyrdin with a capacity of 25 MW is currently under construction at the plant.

Representatives of “Rosmorrechflot” and FSUE “Rosmorport” got acquainted with the construction progress of the icebreaker and hold a meeting which was attended by Yevgeny Zagorodny, Vice-President of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, by Alexei Kadilov, General Director of Baltic Shipyard, Ltd and by project managers. Participants of the meeting discussed additional activities for reducing time of the icebreaker construction.

Viktor Chernomyrdin icebreaker is a prototype of the innovative project that can become a basis for the next generation of icebreakers. It has a number of breakthrough solutions compared to the previous generation, as follows: high ice passability and maneuverability,    dynamic positioning system, high degree of automation, two helicopter systems, the ability to install cargo crane with high lifting capacity (up to 150 tons). The icebreaker has a unique electric propulsion system that allows to maintain control in full even when moving aft on the ice. In addition, pneumo spraying system of the hull provides compressed air supply alongside ship that excludes ice adhesion.

The construction of the icebreaker is conducted in the framework of implementation of Federal Targeted Programme “Russian Transport System Development (2010-2020)” commissioned by the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency for FSUE “Rosmorport”.
