Novorossiysk Icebreaker Returns to the Seaport of Murmansk

On February 09, 2017 Novorossiysk icebreaker came back to the Murmansk Seaport from the Franz Josef Land Archipelago shores.

Having shipped over 160 tons of cargo to the Alexandra Land the icebreaker completed its first Arctic voyage. Besides, while sailing Novorossiysk successfully conducted icebreaker support of the Klavdia Elanskaya passenger vessel that in accordance with its sailing directions conducted conveyance and safe landing of more than 200 passengers. The icebreaker sail to the land shores and its return back took slightly more than a week.

In the seaport of Murmansk the icebreaker will load the general cargo and will leave for the Franz Josef Land Archipelago again to conduct the Varzuga tanker.  

By the end of February Novorossiysk is expected to start operations in the White Sea where it will conduct icebreaker supports of the heavy-tonnage vessels between Arkhangelsk and Kandalaksha Seaports.

Novorossiysk is one of the three linear diesel-electric icebreakers built under the Federal Targeted Program “Development of the Transport System of Russia (2010-2020)”. The vessel is constructed with the use of advanced technologies and can break the ice with the thickness of up to 1,5 m. The icebreaker is designed to conduct supports of heavy-tonnage vessels, towing operations, cargo shipping and to help distressed vessels.
