Maintenance Dredging Works in the Seaports of the Big Port of Saint-Petersburg and Ust-Luga

Since 2017, maintenance dredging works in seaports of the Big Port of Saint-Petersburg and Ust-Luga will be conducted in accordance with newly approved project documentation.

JSC “Lenmorniiproekt” performed development of the design documentation by order of the FSUE “Rosmorport”. The projects provide performance of the maintenance dredging with the aim of the safety ensuring of navigation and maintaining passport size of the waters, approach channels and fairways of the seaports Big Port of Saint-Petersburg and Ust-Luga for the period until 2026.

In the established order, the projects received positive conclusions of the state ecological expertise committee, certifying conformance with the ecological requirements established by the Russian Federation in the field of environment protection.

Maintenance dredging will be underway annually, taking into account navigational restrictions and limitation of production work during the spawning migrations of fish. Bottom soil derived during dredging is planned to be placed in underwater dumps in the Gulf of Finland in accordance with the resolutions of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Natural Resource Use. During dredging works industrial environmental control (monitoring) is provided, including the observations of the disposal areas of the bottom soil and condition of the marine environment. Also, measures for damage mitigation to water biological resources and their habitats will be taken annually due to the dredging works performed.

On 2017 FSUE “Rosmorport” scheduled the performance of the maintenance dredging works in summer and autumn period in the amount of 152 thousand of cubic meter in the Big Port of Saint-Petersburg and the 80 thousand of cubic meter in the port of Ust-Luga. FSUE “Rosmorport” plans to use its own dredging equipment for work performance.
