On February 4, 2016, Kapitan Khlebnikov Icebreaker, which belongs to FSUE “Rosmorport”, has begun works in the seaport of Prigorodnoye.

At present time Kapitan Khlebnikov maintains watching and ice management in the waters and on the approaches to the seaport of Prigorodnoye. The duties of the Icebreaker are convoying carrier ships, preparation of the landing strip for ships arrival and mooring in the seaport.

Kapitan Khlebnikov is supposed to be functioning in the area till the middle of March, 2017.

Prigorodnoye is the first seaport of Russia which has been built specifically for servicing oil tankers and vessels transporting liquefied natural gas. The seaport is located at the southern seashore of Sakhalin Island in the Aniva bay to the east of embouchure Mereya between Tomari-Aniva and Yunona capes.
