Novorossiysk Icebreaker Leaves in the First Working Voyage

On January 12, 2017 the Novorossiysk - a new diesel-electric ice breaker 21900M set off on the first working voyage.

The ice breaker left seaport Big Port Saint Petersburg towards the White Sea. At the beginning of February Novorossiysk will get to work on icebreaking support of the vessels going to/from seaports of Kandalaksha and Arkhangelsk. In total Novorossiysk will pass about 2,7 thousand sea miles.

During transition, the new diesel-electric ice breaker will make a technical call at the seaport of Murmansk and will carry out escort of ZHEHAT 2 bulk ship.

In the White Sea Novorossiysk will carry out icebreaking escorts of heavy-tonnage vessels in ice conditions.

The Novorossiysk icebreaker is built with the use of the most contemporary technologies and is capable of going through ice with the thickness of up to 1.5 metres.

The vessel’s particulars:
Length – 119.8 meters;
Breadth – 27.5 meters;
Draft – 8.5 meters;
Sailing speed in open water – 17 knots.
