On December 26, 2016a solemn ceremony took place in St. Petersburg to sign an acceptance certificate for the Novorossiysk diesel-electric icebreaker built by the order of FSUE “Rosmorport”.

The document was signed after the successful completion of sea trials that had included the check-out of the vessel’s speed performance and maneuvering characteristics, the operation of the vessel’s system and devices, operational capability of propulsive machinery and electric-, radio- and navigation equipment.

The Novorossiysk icebreaker has been built with the use of high technology and is capable of overcoming the 1.5-meter thick ice. The icebreaker is designated for supership autonomous pilotage, vessel towing, assistance to vessels and cargo transportation. It will be used in the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch in the Baltic Sea water area in the winter season and in the seas of the Arctic region in the summer-autumn season.

The Novorossiysk icebreaker is one of the three linear diesel-electric icebreakers built within the federal special-purpose program, “The Development of Transport System in Russia (2010-2020)”.

The vessel’s particulars:
Length – 119.8 meters;
Breadth – 27.5 meters;
