Novorossiysk is one of three linear icebreakers with power of 16MW, which was constructed within “Russian Transport System Development (2010-2020)” federal target program. This two-deck vessel with unlimited navigation area is able to pass ice with thickness up to 1.5 meters. Icebreaker is equipped with helicopter pad and has a stock of fuel, sufficient for autonomous operation within 40 days. Main designation of Novorossiysk icebreaker is independent escort of large vessels, towing, assistance to vessels and cargo transportation. The use of new diesel-powered Icebreaker is expected in the Baltic Sea and on the Arctic routes.
