Mir Sailing Ship Heads for Saint Petersburg

On November 21, 2016, Mir sailing ship proceeded from the seaport of Travemünde (Germany) to Saint Petersburg. The frigate's arrival in the seaport of registration is expected on November 28.

Currently, practical sailing training of cadets of Siberian State University of Water Transport is being held on board of the sailing ship. The practical training lasts for about two months, during which the cadets gain experience of sailing in open sea and consolidate the theoretical knowledge acquired in the educational institution.

In December, 2016, after finishing the practical training, a planned internavigational repair starts on the vessel: repair of catering equipment as well as maintenance of the systems and mechanisms of the sailing ship will be conducted.

After completion of winter navigation, the Mir sailing ship will put to sea and take on board cadets of industrial institutions in April 2017.

Mir three-masted sailing training ship was constructed in 1987 in Gdansk Shipyard (Poland). From 2014, it is owned by FSUE “Rosmorport”. Mir is considered the fastest sailing ship in sea. Throughout its history, it won over 20 races, including Big Regatta devoted to 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. In 2016, the sailing ship took the first place in the overall standings of the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta.
