Mir Sailing Ship Arrives in Germany

On November 16, 2016, Mir Sailing Ship moored in the seaport of Travemünde (Germany). After participation in the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016, Mir is on its way back to the seaport of registration – seaport Big Port Saint Petersburg.

The vessel will stay in Germany till November 20. The main objective of stay in Travemünde is vessel’s consumable stores replenishment and preparation for the further transition.

Currently, 45 cadets of Siberian State Water Transport University (SSWTU) are passing practical training on board of the vessel.

The practical training allows the cadets to consolidate their theoretical knowledge and gain experience of navigation in the open sea.

Starting from November 17, the Mir ship will be open to public. During four days, everybody will be able to go aboard the fastest sailing ship in the world, to get acquainted with the crew and cadets, to stand abaft the wheel and even to ring the ship’s bell.

Mir three-masted training ship was constructed in 1987 in the Gdańsk Shipyard (Poland). From 2014, Mir is owned by FSUE “Rosmorport”. Mir is considered to be the fasted sailing ship in the world. Throughout its history, the vessel won over 20 races, including Grand Regatta dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America.
