President of Russia Vladimir Putin Awards Mir Sailing Ship Crew for Victory in a Race of the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016

On September 24, 2016 President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin awarded winners of the Russian race of the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016.

The Head of the State presented a cup to the Mir Sailing ship master Andrey Orlov for victory in the race Novorossiysk - Sochi.

“The Tall Ships Races is a significant event. Every person - both so-called “sea wolves” and begginer sailors - when boarding a ship and touching the steering wheel, sails for the first time, experiences a peculiar, strong, vivid feeling. And it is important that people study not only sailorizing, they also start understanding that their success depends on the skills of every crew member and coherence of the crew in general.” - the President said.

Then Vladimir Putin and Aide to President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maksim Sokolov, FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrey Tarasenko and PAO “Sovkomflot” Board Chairman boarded one of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Frigates - Nadezhda Sailing Training Ship, which performed the longest transition from the seaport of registration (Vladivostok) to the place of start of the regatta (Constanța, Romania). The sailing ship passed over 10 thousand nautical miles, and the voyage took over two months.

On board of the sailing ship the official delegation got acquainted with models of the most modern FSUE “Rosmorport” vessels.

Then Nadezhda's master and crew told Vladimir Putin about the vessel history and noted the important role of the sailing ship in the Russian maritime educational system: over 450 cadets annually pass practical training on the frigate.

Leaving the sailing ship Vladimir Putin wished the crew good luck and left a memorable note in the book of honourable guests.
