Mir Sailing Ship Wins the First Race of the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016

On September 19, 2016 the first stage of the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta started in Novorossiysk.

The sailing flotilla proceeded along the Novorossiysk – Sochi route. Before the start of the race (at 16:00, Moscow time) residents and guests of Novorossisk had a unique opportunity to watch the Parade of Sails.

Three FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ships, Nadezhda, Mir and Khersones, are taking part in the second stage of the Regatta. For Khersones Training Sailing Ship the upcoming race will be the first after 10 years of inactivity and complex restoring repair.

Arrival of sailing ships in Sochi is expected on September 21, 2016.

Within four days the residents of the city will have a great opportunity to watch a solemn parade of the crews and go aboard the vessels. The festive program also includes music concerts, sporting events and colorful fireworks.

The day before the departure of sailing ships, Sochi hosted a ceremony of awarding the winners of the first race. Mir took the first place in the A class, Nadezhda took the second place, the Polish Pogoria took the third. Next in the test table there are Bulgarian Kaliakra and Royal Helena, followed by Kruzenshtern. In the B class championship was taken by the Romanian Adornate, followed by Atyla sailing ship from the Republic of Vanuatu. Winner of the C and D classes is the Russian yacht Akela.

The final race of the Regatta will start along the Sochi - Varna route on September 25.
