FSUE “Rosmorport” and Sevastopol Government Sign Agreement

At the 20th Petersburg International Economic Forum, which was opened in Saint Petersburg on June 16, 2016, FSUE “Rosmorport” and the Sevastopol government signed an agreement on cooperation in operating the Khersones training sailing ship. The signing ceremony was attended by Russian Deputy Transport Minister, head of the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport Viktor Olersky.

The document was signed by FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrei Tarasenko and Sevastopol Governor, chairman of the Sevastopol government Sergei Menyailo.

Under the agreement, the parties are planning to work jointly to improve training and material, and cultural and recreational base of the sailing ship, and cooperate in organizing and holding different cultural and patriotic events with the participation of the Khersones training sailing ship.

The parties expressed confidence that the implementation of the agreement would facilitate the restoration of the Russian Fleet's popularity and prestige and the respect toward the glorious historical past of the country as the maritime power.

The Khersoness three-masted sailing frigate was designed by outstanding Polish engineer Zygmunt Choren. He designed such sailing ships as Mir, Nadezhda, Pallada and others.
The Khersones was built in the Lenin Gdansk shipyard, Poland, in 1989 under the order of the USSR Ministry of Fisheries.  The keel was laid on December 24, 1987.
The sailing ship is the unique vessel in the world. In 1997 the sailing ship  rounded Cape Horn under sail, in dead engines. Up to now Cape Horn is considered the most dangerous place for navigation.
