FSUE “Rosmorport” Icebreakers Out To The Kara Sea For Ice Trials

On April 16, 2016 the Murmansk and Vladivostok diesel-electric icebreakers of FSUE “Rosmorport” departed from the seaport of Murmansk to conduct ice trials.

After the successful completion of trials of the towing winches, the icebreakers headed for the Kara Sea in search of a solid ice field.

According to the ice trials program, for  determining the parameters of ice propulsion of vessel, its speed, frequency of propellers rotation, power plant capacity and thickness of the crushed ice are measured.

To successfully complete the test Murmansk and Vladivostok icebreakers must confirm the specification requirements – to pass through the continuous field of ice 1.0 meter thick moving uninterruptedly at a speed of 2 knots, and perform icebreaking operations in ice up to 1.5 m thick.
