Icebreaker Support of 88 Vessels Performed Since the Start of the Winter Navigation in the Gulf of Finland

In January 2016, icebreakers of FSUE “Rosmorport” have performed 88 icebreaker operations in the Baltic seaports.

 

In total, 15 enterprise's icebreakers operate in the region, among which Semen Dezhnev, Ivan Kruzenshtern and Mudyug are providing icebreaker support in the channel of Big Port Saint Petersburg, Kapitan M. Izmailov and Karu are escorting vessels in the seaports Vyborg and Vysotsk, in the seaport Primorsk vessel traffic is provided by the icebreaker Yurii Lisyanskii.

 

The other icebreakers of the North-Western Basin Branch are in the operational reserve and ready for participation in escorts in accordance with the orders of the Basin Commission for the organization of vessel escorting by icebreakers in Russian ports of the Baltic Sea and on the approaches to them.

 

In Big Port Saint Petersburg, as well as in the Primorsk and Vysotsk seaports ice class restrictions were set, with no less that Ice1 for the vessels operating. Starting from January 13, vessels without ice strengthening are not allowed to cruise in ice and in the absence of the ice class their operating is allowed only with icebreaker support.

 

FSUE “Rosmorport”, being the owner of the largest diesel icebreaker fleet in the world, provides a year-round navigation in water areas and on the approaches to ports, including the ports of the Baltic Sea, contributing to undisturbed operation of the port complexes.
