On 16 January 2016 on board of the FSUE “Rosmorport” icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn there started the sailing practice for the cadets of the Siberian State University of Water Transport.

Over the course of three months forty second-year cadets of the electromechanical department will have the opportunity not only to study the theoretical aspects of the complex electromechanical equipment of the icebreaker but to gain real life experience of working on the ship during the icebreaker support.

This sailing practice is unique, as no organization has ever conducted group sailing practices for cadets on board of an icebreaker. The resulting experience will help the cadets consolidate and develop their practical skills related to their future professional activities.

Following the practice, every cadet can earn sailing qualifications that are required to obtain the Certificate of Competency and to be given commanding positions on board of the vessels after graduation.

It is imperative that practical skills are mastered by the transport university graduates during their study and before the start of their professional career. By developing cooperation with the industry-specific academic institutions FSUE Rosmorport actively contributes to the patriotic education of the younger generation and training of qualified staff.
