Reconstruction of Navigation Safety System in Kandalaksha Finished

FSUE “Rosmorport” is implementing the construction of new and reconstruction of existing navigation safety systems (NSS) in order to improve the level of navigation safety and ensure safety of life at sea.

In 2015, FSUE “Rosmorport” has finished the construction of the vessel traffic management system (VTS) of Kandalaksha Bay, including the coast station of the sea area A1 of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).

According to the “Sea Transport” subprogram of the Federal Target Program “Russian Transport System Development (2010-2020)”, within the framework of the activity “Construction of the vessel traffic management systems on  the approaches to the seaports of the Russian Federation”, in 2015 the creation of the VTS of Kandalaksha Bay has been finished. The system consists of the control center (CC), located in the building of the former radio station of the Kandalaksha sea trading port, and the automated radio technical post (ARTP), built on the Krestovaya mountain. Technical tools include the coast radar station (CRS), the coast station of the Automatic identification system (CS AIS), the VHF communications subsystem and the radio relay system for communication between the CC and the ARTP. In addition, the coast station of the sea area A1 of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) has been constructed within the project. The constructed objects of the VTS and GMDSS allow to provide the proper level of navigation safety and safety of life at sea on the approaches to the seaport of Kandalaksha.

Currently, the field testing of the VTS and GMDSS has been finished and staff is being recruited. In 2016 it is planned to start the pilot operation of the systems thus created and to undertake further actions for their inspection.
