Sea Trials for FSUE "Rosmorport" Vladivostok Icebreaker Started

On 12 September 2015 sea trials of Vladivostok icebreaker (21900M project) that is being constructed at JSC “Vyborgsky shipyard” started.

The icebreaker is the main of three liner diesel-electrical icebreakers with capacity of 18 MW that are planned to be set into operation in 2015 – 2016. Construction of the vessels is being carried out in accordance with the federal target program “Development of the Russia transport system (2010 – 2020)” and Program of Enterprise Activities adopted by Rosmorrechflot.

Sea trial is an important phase of construction and is conducted in order to   measure the vessel’s performance.

Vladivostok is an icebreaker of a new generation with unlimited navigation area and highly automated equipment; it is propelled by two full-revolving rudders, equipped with a crane with carrying capacity of 26 tons and a maneuvering device on the bow, and its deck is wide enough to place cargo containers. On the protected foredeck of the icebreaker there is a helipad. Fuel endurance is 40 days. Vladivostok can go through ice with width of up to 1.5 m. Its main purpose is self-dependent pilotage of large-capacity vessels, towage, and cargo transshipment.

It is planned to set the icebreaker into operation in the end of 2015. The icebreaker fleet replenishment with new up-to-date vessels is one of the prior aims of FSUE “Rosmorport” in ensuring access to freezing seaports of Russia all year long.
